Transition Distance
|
|
|
|
The distance between the terminal
pulley and the adjacent fully troughed idler set at either the
head or tail end of the conveyor is known as the transition
distance. Transitions occur wherever a belt changes at a terminal
pulley from a flat shape to a trough shape, or vice versa. It is
important that these transition distances should be sufficient to
prevent the belt edges, and the resultant pressure forcing the
belt towards the idler roller intersections, becoming excessive.
At the area of change, the transition must occur over sufficient
conveyor length in order to avoid excessive tension in the belt
edges at a terminal pulley where the belt operating tension is
high. At a low tension terminal, excessive edge tension will
rarely be encountered, but here sufficient transition distance
must be provided to keep the belt tension at the bottom of the
trough great enough to avoid buckling and subsequent problems.
Minimum transition distances are affected by belt tension at the
point of transition, trough angle and the level of terminal pulley
in relation to the last full-troughing idler.

| Take-up-Travel
|
|
|
Neelkanth steel Cord Beltings will operate satisfactorily with a take-up travel as small as 0.25% of the conveyor center distance. To allow this absolute minimum, which will accommodate 0.05% permanent stretch plus 0.15% elastic elongation plus 0.05% thermal Expansion and contraction, careful attention must be given to belt slack during installation, take-up pulley positioning, and starting and stopping conditions. This minimum may allow no provisions for re-splicing, if the belt should be accidentally damaged. To avoid this possibility, we recommend these allowances: Take-ups should be automatic, either counter weighted or wench operated. |
|
|
| When the conveyor center distance is very long, the total take-up travel requirement may be split between two separate take-ups, one automatic and one static. |
